I'm Other People's Thoughts

I always felt most creative when surrounding myself with other people's thinking. I'd go as far as saying that my own thinking is just a combination of other people's ideas that made the most sense to me.

In school it was spending hours in front of ICQ (until I had to disconnect because someone needed to make a phone call), chatting to random people from all over the world. Then it was following interesting people on Twitter, listening to podcasts (in 2010, before it was cool!), watching documentaries about EVERYTHING, scrolling through Reddit, and today, since I seem to be all grown up now, reading books. And of course blogs, always blogs.

Every time it worked the same way: I'd read or hear something from a completely different world than mine, and it would connect to some random thought I had picked up elsewhere before. One post from a person you know nothing about beats ten from your own bubble.

Not through algorithms optimized to keep your attention as long as possible, showing you the same crap in different wrapping over and over and over. Through genuine thoughts from kind human beings, who live often interesting, sometimes boring, even painful, but always completely different lives than me. Lots of them write about their lives in their own little cozy blogs. And since we are now always allowed to go on the internet, it's time to discover new bubbles.
